Modkat XL vs Lifewit Plant Litter Box: What to Check
The linked products present two designs: a Modkat XL with configurable entry and a Lifewit enclosure shaped like a plant pot. Start with usable space, the entrance your cat will use and your cleaning access. The white and gray Modkat listings are color alternatives of the same model, rather than two independently ranked designs.
This guide compares product identities and published information. We have not tested either box in a home, measured odor or tracked litter scatter. A covered enclosure can suit a room's appearance while still being a poor fit for a particular cat or cleaning routine.
Identify the exact products before comparing
The Modkat links on this page identify the XL model. The plant-style listing identifies Lifewit. “Nature litter box” does not identify that linked brand or a specific model, so use the actual product name and selected variant when checking the retailer page.
Compare the designs
| Check | Modkat XL | Lifewit plant-style enclosure |
|---|---|---|
| Entry | Modkat specifies top, front or dual-entry configurations | Check the front entrance and its threshold on the selected listing |
| Cleaning access | Removable lid and reusable liners | Confirm how the upper shell separates from the basin |
| Size evidence | Modkat's dimensions panel lists 21 × 16.5 × 17 inches externally | Confirm the linked color variant's basin and opening measurements |
| Consumables | Check the correct liner type for the entry configuration | Check the filter size, availability and replacement instructions |
| Appearance | Covered rectangular box | Plant-pot form with decorative foliage |
| Unmeasured here | Odor reduction, tracking, durability, cat acceptance and ease of cleaning in daily use | |
Measure the cat space and the room space separately
For a room layout, measure the exterior footprint and leave room to approach the entrance and lift the lid or shell. For the cat, obtain the usable basin dimensions and entrance measurements. Decorative height above a basin does not describe how much room a cat has inside it.
Modkat provides separate measurements for the XL's top opening, front opening and front threshold. Use the dimensions for the configuration you intend to use. The manufacturer's claim that a box accommodates large cats does not replace checking those measurements against your own cat's space requirements.
The official Lifewit page we located describes a white plant-style version. The retailer card here identifies a black version. We have not established that all their dimensions or supplied parts are identical. Confirm the black listing's measurements and contents rather than transferring a specification from the white page.
Choose the entry configuration first
The useful distinction on the Modkat XL is that the same shell offers front and top entry. That gives you a configuration choice; it does not establish that your cat will accept either entrance. If you need front access, check both the opening and the threshold height before comparing the box's overall size.
For the Lifewit, inspect the opening shown for the selected version. Position the entrance so the room's furniture will not block the approach. If an enclosure cannot provide the access or space you need, remove it from the shortlist even if its decorative shape suits the room.
Rehearse the cleaning steps before buying
Consider where you will put the lid or upper shell while scooping, how the basin empties and whether you have space to wash and dry each part. If the enclosure is going into a tight corner, measure the clearance needed to remove those pieces without moving heavy furniture.
Modkat describes a seamless XL base, a lid that opens for access and reusable liners. The liner is a consumable: check the appropriate replacement type and its current cost. Lifewit's white-version page describes a separable lower shell and basin and an activated-carbon filter. Confirm the same arrangement and replacement filter information for the version you select.
A carbon filter listing does not tell us how much odor it will remove in a particular home. We have no controlled comparison supporting an odor winner, and neither enclosure removes the need for a cleaning routine.
Compare the complete setup
Check today's retailer total for the exact color and package. Add any liners, filters, mats or other parts you intend to use. Verify which accessories are included instead of inferring them from another color's photos.
Keep the purchase receipt and the model or listing identifier. If you need a liner, filter or other replacement later, those details are more useful than a generic search for a “modern litter box.” Check return terms before ordering, particularly if fit or access remains uncertain.
Which design belongs on your shortlist?
- Consider the Modkat XL if choosing between front and top entry is useful and its measured footprint, opening and liner arrangement meet your needs.
- Consider the Lifewit plant-style version if the decorative format is a priority and you can confirm adequate basin space, entrance access and cleaning clearance for the selected variant.
- Keep looking if either product's essential measurements or replacement parts remain unclear.
These are buying criteria, not a veterinary recommendation or a claim that either box has performed better in testing.
